Wine Biography
Wine is Made in the Vineyard
Planted atop the Ribbon Ridge AVA in 2006, Lichtenwalter Vineyard is a dry-farmed site comprised of 13 acres. It is located by Trisaetum Vineyard and is flanked by Beaux Freres. The vineyard was planted and is maintained by Javier Marin. At the 2022 Oregon Wine Industry Awards, Javier Marin was recognized for his excellence in viticulture. The vineyard is Live Certified and in the process of being certified organic. Quintet has purchased fruit from the upper bench of the Lichtenwalter Vineyard since 2014. From Quintets point of view making excellent wine starts with the site and the care the grapes receive in revealing a fine wine.
Tasting Notes
Among the many faces of the Ribbon Ridge AVA, the upper bench of Lichtenwalter Vineyard speaks to us with the best qualities of Ribbon Ridge Pinot Noir. Fermented with 30% whole cluster, the 2018 is a remarkably pure expression with dark fruit and fragrant spice that meld together with vanilla, sassafras, cherry compote and shitake mushroom to create a complex, inviting nose. There is structure here but also hints of this wine’s potential for a uniform silk texture as the elements of this wine align with time in the bottle. Black cherry, herbs, and spice detail the broad, juicy finish.
