2019 “Lichtenwalter Vineyards” Ribbon Ridge AVA Pinot Noir

Wine Biography

About the Vineyard

Planted in 2006, Lichtenwalter Vineyard is a dry-farmed site located between Trisaetum and Utopia Wineries on the top of the tiny Ribbon Ridge AVA. It is farmed by Javier Marin, formerly of Shea Vineyard, and is live certified. The sedimentary soils are dominated by Willakenzie series (silt loam) at 350-500 feet elevation. Quintet has purchased fruit from the upper bench of Lichtenwalter since 2014.

Tasting Notes

Among the many faces of the Ribbon Ridge AVA, the upper bench of Lichtenwalter Vineyard speaks to us with the best qualities of Ribbon Ridge Pinot Noir. Fermented with 30% whole cluster, the 2019 blends dark fruit and classic Ribbon Ridge spice. Berry compote, spice cake, blood orange, mint, roasted hazelnuts, and a balancing mineral quality that brings it all together on the nose. The supple palate is both full and silky with black cherry and plum at mid that lead to a long, mineral finish. This has balance and complexity that will reward aging for more than a decade.
