Wine Biography
About the Vineyard
Planted in 2011, Matteri Vineyard sits at an elevation of 500-550 feet in the northwest corner of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA with a south to southwest slope. Owner Robert Matteri collects meticulous weather data and asserts that precipitation avoids hilltop while hitting vineyards very nearby. To be sure, this is a dry vineyard with moderated vine vigor that looks more like top vineyards in Sonoma than those typically seen in Oregon. Well-drained Dupee, Sitton, and Goodin soils compose the Quintet blocks of Chardonnay.
Tasting Notes
The aromatic nose of the 2019 combines roasted almond, gingersnap, woodsy spice, pear and pineapple. Meanwhile, the palate is bright and lively with incredible energy conveyed through lemon, early-pick pineapple and a slick stony quality that carries the wine to a long, fresh-juicy finish. This is a baby now and will surely open with time to release an incredible bottle bouquet…given its expressiveness in youth.
